You need quality guitar cases to protect your babies!

Guitar cases are an important part in your "guitar survivability" in normal every day life.

  • Protecting your ax from the elements (sunlight, dust, your dog, your kids).
  • Provides a convenient shipping container if you buy or sell.
  • When carrying your guitar, protects from dings, scrapes and scratches as you move from point A to point B.
  • Provides overall storage if you don't use your guitar very often (what?).

Guitar cases come in a variety of styles and shapes. Most of the cases I am familiar with were made with 3-ply cross-laminate wood or cardboard construction, some kind of plasticized exterior, plush interior lining and (somewhat) heavy-duty hardware.

My crappy cases. From back to front, Takamine acoustic case, Gibson chainsaw case, Fender Strat case and the Messenger case. Not road worthy, barely good enough for storage.

Some of my earlier (sixties era) cases seem to be pretty cheap with cardboard (press board?) predominate throughout the design.

My Messenger case appears to be all cardboard. Cheap but functional. Surprised it has lasted for over forty years!

The Fender guitar case is standard issue and works just fine.

My Les Paul case is from the early '80s. Known as a "chain saw case" due to its plastic molded shell with a plush interior. The trouble with this case is the lousy three latch design which is supposed to hold everything together. I don't know, but one latch is broken off (cheap, cheap, cheap!) and I am afraid to hold the guitar case by the handle. I'm just waiting for another latch to pop off and there goes my beautiful Les Paul Custom tumbling onto the ground.

I know, I know, I should go out and get an after market case. Let's see what's out there, hmmm?

Here's a case that's road-tough(?) with 5-ply cross-laminate wood construction, plush interior lining, heavy-duty hardware, interior accessory compartment, and locking fasteners. Inexpensive but with a $2500 guitar, I think I would opt for a little better one.

Here is another with a thick, black, road-resistant PVC exterior, 4 drawbar latches to keep it securely fastened, retainer straps for the lid, and a solid handle.

For you Les Paul fans, this hard shell LP case keeps your guitar safe and sound with a plush interior and a handy accessory compartment.

Some manufacturers like Postal Monkey dress up the outside of the guitar case. A lot more interesting than a plain boring black case.

If you really want to go crazy, and I recommend these cases especially for touring musicians, get a flight case like this one made by Gator. Let's see those jerk-offs at United try to break this one in half!

The overall point I am trying to make is this. You paid a lot of money for your guitar or (in my case) I have a 35 year old Fender Stratocaster I reworked to look like Hendrix's Strat at the Newport '69 Pop Festival. It might be worth a few bucks to somebody but it is priceless to me.

Irreplaceable!

Go out and pay too much for a decent case. You wont regret it!
