Guitar stands will protect your investment!

Guitar stands are a great accessory to have when your playing. It's easier to set the guitar on a stand instead of laying it in its case or worse, leaning the guitar against the wall or lying it on a bed.

You would be heartbroken if your axe slid down the wall and chipped the head stock or if you had someone accidentally sit on the guitar neck if it's on the bed.

My thought is, it's great to use temporarily. By this, I mean don't leave your guitar on the stand all of the time. It could still get knocked over by a dogs tail or your kid running around kicking a ball. At the very least, it gets dusty and is exposed to any toxins in the air or sunlight. This could cause the finish to age prematurely. Keep your guitar in its case when your not playing it. guitar stands, guitar accessories

Stands are probably as old as guitars themselves.

Today they're usually made with tubular aluminum (or rarely wood) with rubber or foam where the guitar touches.

My first stand was made of coated steel with rubber on the guitar points that folded flat. It was a real pain to fold and unfold, I was forever pinching my fingers in it.

Now you can put one, two, three or more guitars on a single stand. Some guitar stands (technically hangers) mount on the wall so you can hang your guitar and show it off. But be careful, this can leave rub marks on the finish of the head stock. I personally don't like them. I don't want my guitars exposed to the elements.

Also be aware of the stands possible instability. If you lean your guitar too far back up against the stand, it could fall forward with the smallest push. Lean the guitar so it angles against the stand with the weight of the guitar balanced on the stand.

Most stands cost around twenty dollars for a single guitar. Stands also come in an "A-frame" type of configuration (without neck support).

Guitar stands with neck support come with a plastic locking ring to keep your guitar from tipping forward. Don't depend on this too much, it's not that supportive.

Check out Guitar Center or Musician's Friends online. They both have dozens of different types of stands to fit your budget.
